In April 2025, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed HB133 into law. With that, Wyoming became only the second state to move forward with an “online only” sports betting market, joining Tennessee. After a relatively quick legislative turnaround, the state of Wyoming officially launched its first online sportsbooks – BetMGM and DraftKings – on September 1st, 2025. The road to legalization in Wyoming
After Gov. Gordon signed the House Bill into law in April, sports betting became official on September 1st, 2025. The Governor himself made a push for legalization before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, recognizing its importance on the sporting calendar.
Being a smaller state, Wyoming was able to pass legislation much faster and more efficiently than some other states. Initially, Rep. Tom Walters introduced the bill and was shot down in March ’21. However, the House reconsidered the bill and passed it the very next day. The passing of this legislation was a pleasant surprise. A few weeks later the Governor put pen to paper in April, officially making it law. Less than six months after the state’s sports betting bill was signed, online sportsbooks were “Live” and accepting legal wagers – a quick turnaround by industry standards.
As noted above, two operators went live at the time of the launch and other prominent sportsbooks have followed suit to join Wyoming creating an active market for its users.
Online only betting in Wyoming
Wyoming took a somewhat unique approach to sports betting, electing to go with the “online only” model. This means that while sports betting is now legal over the internet, Wyoming will not have any sort of in-person, retail betting. All legal bets must be placed over the internet using a licensed website or app. The “online only” model has a lot of benefits for its residents and any tourists passing through the state. Retail gambling facilities in Wyoming
While legal bets must be placed online, Wyoming does have a number of existing gambling establishments. However, in order for them to get involved in sports betting, there would need to be additional legislation passed. The state of Wyoming does not have any commercial casinos, but it does have four tribal casinos owned by two Native American tribes.
The Wyoming land-based casinos are situated on tribal lands on the Wind River Reservation. Those tribes have the ability to offer Class III gaming.
Active sportsbooks in Wyoming
Another benefit of the “online only” model is the level of competition states like Wyoming now have. The Wyoming sports betting legislation requires that at least five platforms are given entry to the market. DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM were ready to launch on Day 1 while FanDuel Sportsbook was not far behind with their licensing approval occurring in November of 2025. PointsBet jumped on the bandwagon in February 2025, but they have yet to launch their in-state operation.

With the law stating at least five platforms be active in their market, Barstool Sportsbook could be a possible contender with other sportsbooks potentially joining the Cowboy state. The more, the merrier.
A closer look at the WY online sportsbooks
Since Wyoming does not have any commercial casinos operating with sports betting, per state regulations, Wyoming joined Virginia as the second state in 2025 to permit direct mobile licensing. This allows mobile operators to be licensed independent of any tethering to a land-based casino or other brick-and-mortar establishments. Simply put, it’s comparatively easy, and inexpensive to start offering sports betting in Wyoming.
This leniency has created an arms race of sorts, creating the potential for many books to enter the fray – each fighting to retain customers and expand their market cap. Let’s examine each of the sportsbooks that are currently active and what they bring to the table.
DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings was the first sportsbook to go live in Wyoming, at the time its 13th state of operation. The Wyoming Gaming Commission granted the app approval on launch day. DraftKings is formerly known as the world’s largest Daily Fantasy Sports operator but is now dipping their toes into the sportsbook world.
DraftKings has successfully expanded its customer reach and established itself as one of the biggest sports betting conglomerates in the industry. Wyoming became the third state in 2025 to launch DraftKings Online Sportsbook following Virginia and Michigan in January while joining Colorado as the second state in the Western United States.
DraftKings Sportsbook came to Wyoming after the company launched its popular daily fantasy sports (DFS) product there in 2012.
BetMGM
BetMGM’s arrival in Wyoming made it the 14th state for the MGM Resorts online brand. The BetMGM Sportsbook received approval to launch the same day as DraftKings, and has been taking bets in Wyoming since Day 1.
The BetMGM Sportsbook offers a user-friendly betting experience with plenty of options from pre-game, live-betting, as well as futures and parlay wagers. BetMGM’s Rewards program gives Wyoming users the ability to redeem and use their gameplay for experiences at MGM Resorts around the country including the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
FanDuel
In March 2025 Wyoming became the 15th US state with access to the FanDuel Sportsbook app. Like BetMGM and DraftKings, FanDuel has solidified themselves as a betting giant – often setting itself apart from its peers. FanDuel Sportsbook has plenty of innovative features including their slick design and easy-to-use interface.
PointsBet
On March 10, 2025, the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission, which regulates sports betting in the state, approved PointsBet to operate as its fourth licensed online sportsbook operator. The numerous officials in attendance voted unanimously to approve the PointsBet license to compete against the likes of BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel.
It is unclear when PointsBet will launch in Wyoming. A spokesperson for PointsBet did not provide a target date for launch. PointsBet Sportsbook currently operates in nine states online, and will be up in running in Wyoming as well before too long.
Popular pro sports and college teams in Wyoming
Although Wyoming isn’t the home of any professional sports teams, it is the home for one Division I program: the Wyoming Cowboys. The Cowboys have seen plenty of success on the gridiron and hardwood with numerous bowl appearances and NCAA Tournament showings in recent years.
Wyoming is also the alma mater of Buffalo Bills sensation, Josh Allen. Allen was the victim of being on the wrong side of a coin flip this past postseason but Allen is certainly one of the league’s budding superstars.
Gov. Gordon knows the heart and soul for Cowboys sports fandom is football which is why he made it a point to expedite the legalization of sports betting to launch before the start of the 2025 NFL season.

Wyoming Sports Betting Age: 18+
Fortunately, for most incoming freshmen, the legal gambling age to use online sportsbooks is 18 in Wyoming. The industry standard is 21, so this is a pretty big deal.
This means any individual within the state borders of Wyoming must be at least 18 years of age to register and open an online sportsbooks account and place bets. Furthermore, beyond staying within the borders of the state, users must not be located on tribal land when doing so.
In order to register for an account with these sportsbooks, users will need to provide first and last name, address, date of birth and the last four digits of their Social Security Number (SSN). This is so the sportsbook operators can verify your age and can confirm your identity.
